Taking Social Media to the Next Level - Exclusive Interview w/Go Grab Lunch's Jonathan Patrick

Launched in November 2010 by finance professional, Jonathan Patrick, Go Grab Lunch is an online site that facilitates one on one networking lunches between business professionals who have never met. Their mantra “never eat lunch alone” is based on the principal that eating lunch alone is nothing but a wasted opportunity. In a world where it’s not always about what you know, but who you know, Go Grab Lunch helps professionals to broaden their network and create meaningful business connections.

Let’s take a deeper look inside with the man that started it all…

1. What is your ultimate goal with go grab lunch?
To get members out from behind their computers and re-engage in face to face networking through which we believe they can build powerful, mutually beneficial business relationships.  We spend a lot of time educated members via our blog, tweets, seminars, etc on how to network properly.
2. Tell me about your favorite or most profound connection using Go Grab Lunch...
There have been two moments when we realized we had something profound.  The first was when on our second day of being live we became aware that both Google and Paypal had been digging for more information on our site.  The second was when through social media our site was discovered and featured on a Spanish blog and then later that day by the Peruvian national newspaper and we instantly had 55 Peruvians as members.
3. Have you had any apprehensions from users about meeting face to face? I mean, there are creeps out there...
Not at all.  From day one we have built in systems to eliminate that concern particularly for women.  You can set your preferences such that you only network with the same gender.  And all meetings are in open, public places.
4. What makes GGL different from other social media sites?
Other networking sites connect you with people you already know, which is the exact opposite of real networking. We connect you one-on-one for lunch with professionals you do not currently know, based on parameters predetermined by you.
5. Where do you see social media going in the next 5 yrs?
We believe social media will be used not as a sole marketing initiative but as a piece of the marketing puzzle, along with face to face networking through GoGrabLunch.com
6. If you could give one tidbit of advice to businesses and business professionals on increasing their social media presence and professional connections, what would it be?
Truly go into a business relationship with no hidden agenda.  Do your best to help others and your efforts will be rewarded.  Too many people spend time on social media and other networking avenues trying to draw attention to themselves.  We teach professionals to ask how they can help others.

There you have it folks! Taking Social Media Networking to the Next Level with GGL. “Sometimes it really is who you know, not what you know. So make a new contact and GO GRAB LUNCH!”

GGL Feedback:
““There’s just no substitute for body language, facial expression, and all of the other subtleties of a face-to-face meeting. I like nothing better than being able to actually meet someone that I have interacted with through online media. Getting to actually sit down with an acquaintance from Twitter or Facebook substantially elevates a relationship in my opinion. It substantiates or negates whatever your online opinions might have been. Face-to-face also opens up opportunities to network with people that just aren’t in your online circle.”
